better is better
Did you know there are potentially hazardous ingredients -like carcinogens- in the personal care products many of us put on our bodies every day? Our skin is our largest organ and what we put on it is absorbed through our bloodstream. The European Union bans over 1500 ingredients deemed harmful from ever even going into any products produced and sold within Europe. The United States bans 30. That means our government is not advocating for our safety and we need to be ingredient detectives just to be sure we aren't using products with known carcinogens, endocrine disruptors or any of the multitudes of perfectly legal toxic ingredients.

ready to switch to safer?!
There's a lot to consider and it may feel daunting to replace all of your personal care products at once but we can hop on a Clean Beauty call and make a plan together! Some best practices are to start with the products that you use most often and that stay on your skin the longest like deodorant, moisturizer and makeup. You can also start by checking to see if what you have is safe or not by reading the ingredients list (if it's available, personal care products are not required to list ingredients.) Red flag ingredients include fragrance, triclosan, formaldehyde and phthalates - all of which are NEVER in Beautycounter's skincare or cosmetics or in Color Street's nail strips! Although Beautycounter is not available through their website at this time I am excited for their return in 2025 and hope to again be representing the brand! I love that you can feel confident that Beautycounter's full collection of products is safe- as they are all rigorously screened and tested and abide by their Never List which bans over 1800 ingredients from their products. *Color Street has expanded from nail polish strips to a full line of hand care and lipsticks and some of their products do have fragrance.* If you want to learn about the fragrance loophole and ingredients, tap the button above to book now and your FREE Spirit Style Consultation can focus on Clean Beauty! If you're ready to switch to safer I highly recommend shopping with Beautycounter and Color Street and you can do so with me as your Consultant through the buttons below (Beautycounter just as soon as it is possible again.)
think more creative optimist and less crunchy skeptic!
Trust me, the days in limbo between when I had learned the toxic truth behind the fashion and beauty industries but hadn't yet found acceptable solutions were dark! There really is something for everyone within the fabulous world of Clean Beauty and I am here to tell you it can be elevated and eccentric and exciting! The days of the only safer solutions being products that don't deliver high performance or feel absolutely luxurious are over! Isn't science cool?! There are even safer and cleaner alternatives for glitter and hair dye! In fact, my all time fave glitter comes from a woman owned botanical biz based out of New Orleans!
so much to share!
I have researched and written blogs and articles about all things Sustainable Style as well as created videos on YouTube and of course on Facebook and Instagram! We should totally be hanging out on social media if you've made it this far into this site! Find me at @themisandthread! One of my favorite topics over the years has been revolutionary plant and mineral based glitter. Better glitter was a really exciting moment for me as a Designer and Stylist focusing on sustainability because the glitz and glam had felt like a guilty pleasure. Check out my biodegradable glitter research, a couple videos about cleaner cosmetics and some shoppable goodness below!
