sustainability

There are many ways we can counteract the conventional, unsustainable practices surrounding us.  Here at Themis and Thread we believe that better is better, and that trying trumps complacency. Below you will find some of our sustainability practices and policies. If you would like more resources on living a more sustainable life visit our "Revolution" page for lots of ways for you to take action and join the Fashion Revolution!

carbon footprint

Reducing our carbon footprint is incredibly important to us.  In 2013 when Themis and Thread began we pledged exclusive use of American made components to help reduce our carbon footprint by not contributing to the pollution from shipping materials across the planet.  In 2015 we became Certified Carbon Neutral and have continued our dedication to Carbon Offsetting our entire production.

GUIDELINES

We believe that there is no acceptable “cost of doing business” which
I) Degrades Nature through pollution, sequestration or industrialization,
II) Threatens Life through (wage) slavery, inferiority propaganda or animal cruelty, or
III) Diminishes American Opportunity through debt (poverty), miseducation or outsourcing.
Dedication to revolutionary transparency, cooperation and good will- More than just a (Fashion Revolution) Day.
Promoting justice for our environment, humanity and our future by carbon considerate, ethically created, guaranteed products.
Liberation from arresting concepts is achievable through enlightening and accepting style, rather than demeaning and exclusive fashions. Sneaking in some magical love with every handmade product, Themis and Thread’s styles aim to let you be the light.

COMMITMENT

*We have expanded our supply base to include all of The Americas.*
Our original business plan focused on all supplies coming from The United States of America which excluded many Indigenous/People of Color to the North and South and further perpetuated the lack of funds being dispersed amongst the Global South.  We will continue to focus on safe and ethically produced supplies but are proud to include South America and the rest of North America which will still enable us to continue to reduce our carbon footprint through ordering close to home.
All of Themis and Thread's products are made in the Americas, exclusively from components made in the Americas, providing a minimal carbon footprint, (in many other fashion brands fabrics are shipped up to four times around the world before ending up as products on shopping center racks.)  Each garment is lovingly crafted, using carefully selected materials like the organically grown cotton produced by American farmers.   Every aspect of producing these garments is done ethically and environmentally considerate. It's a simple decision which benefits us all, and actively puts you in the middle of this righteous cycle.

What folks are saying:

"Talking with Jesse makes me feel seen, heard, known, accepted, understood and INSPIRED! She is a great listener, open minded, open hearted and a super creative problem solver. You can feel the passion she has for empowering women, in anyway, but especially through fashion. I really feel like I can share anything with her… really personal issues regarding clothing and body image, or clothing and dating, or clothing and authenticity, clothing and age… She gets it. I highly recommend working with her."
Jill A.

“Before Covid my wardrobe may or may not have been stuck in maternity clothing - stylish, but stretchy....and while I'm pretty committed to stretchy-but-stylish, I'm not committed to stretched and worn OUT. SO the woman I hired is Jesse Beardslee!”
Laura K.

“At a very vulnerable time in all aspects I felt really held by Jesse. She was super non-judgmental and met me exactly where I am. She helped ground me into more confidence that my dream of being an entrepreneurial artist is not only possible, but that I do have the support and ability to be successful; And I walked away with some tools, tips and ideas so that I can take the next steps.”
Nicole C.

“I can't recommend Jesse's Spirit-style consultation enough. Whether we like it or not, we all judge and are being judged based fashion choices. Feeling confident in clothes that fit and accessories that represent your intention is worth taking the effort and Jesse can help. Her approach is comfortable, confidential and congenial.”
Christine M.
